Description
Bowmore is one of the oldest distilleries on Islay, established in 1779, and its 12 year old is the benchmark expression of its style: balanced, with moderate smoke rather than the heavy peat of some island neighbors. It is bottled at 80 proof.
The nose combines peat smoke with honey, citrus and a trace of sea air. On the palate, gentle smoke meets sweet sherry notes, lemon and honey, with a hint of brine. The finish is medium in length, smoky and lightly sweet.
Enjoy it neat or with a little water. It works well as a first step into Islay whisky, and as an everyday pour for fans of the region. Its moderate smoke also makes it a good partner for grilled foods, salty cheeses and dark chocolate.
