Description
Craigellachie is a Speyside distillery known for a robust, slightly meaty and fruity spirit, a style that rewards long aging. This 17 year old is bottled at 92 proof and shows how well that character matures.
The nose shows honey, ripe orchard fruit and a hint of spice. The palate builds on this with sweet malt, richer fruit and gentle spice, with a firm, slightly waxy texture. The finish is long and warming.
Pour it neat, or with a few drops of water to soften the edges. It is well suited to a slow evening and to gifting to someone who enjoys characterful Speyside malts. A square of dark chocolate or a ripe pear is a good companion.
