Description
Lagavulin 12 Year Old is the Islay distillery's annual cask-strength Special Release, drawn from refill American and European oak casks and bottled without chill filtration. Lagavulin was founded in 1816 and is known for its intense, smoky and maritime style.
Expect bold peat smoke, dried fruit and a hint of sea salt on the nose and palate, with a long, smoky, warming finish. As a cask-strength release, the ABV varies by release. Scotch whisky must be matured in oak for at least three years in Scotland, and the type of cask used plays a large part in shaping the final flavor.
Sip it neat or with a few drops of water. It is best suited to peat lovers and collectors. A few drops of room-temperature water can open up the aroma, and it pairs well with dark chocolate, smoked salmon or aged cheese.
