Description
Pittyvaich was a Speyside distillery that closed in 1993, which makes any release from its stocks rare. This 2020 edition is a 30 year old from 1989 and is the distillery's first to be finished in first-fill ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at natural cask strength, 101.6 proof.
The aroma is mellow and slightly drying, with ripe fruit over a base of tropical foliage. The palate is smooth and lightly oily, with rich vanilla balanced by fruit. The finish is on the shorter side, lightly drying, with lingering spicy warmth.
Serve it neat or with a little water in a traditional whisky glass to enhance the fresh aromas. Given its rarity, it is best saved for a moment worth marking.
